Manual transmission rattling under acceleration

I went down there and shook stuff around listening for anything. Didn't hear anything. But I'll check when I get home from school.

Tried that nothing I think I'll go with what insanejughead said. Unless any one else has an idea on what it could be

Well, when I thought I heard a clunk in my rear end and thought there was a lot of play in it I heard a sort of rattling sound that had me baffled...was about to drop the drive shaft when I noticed that the rear U-joint was actually wobbly...

I finally got around to dropping the drive shaft and there was just a very slight wobble in the U-joint...but it was enough to make a lot of rattling noises and clunks...

I even took the drive shaft to a mechanic cause I thought it needed grease...he told me it was done and to change it...so I did...no more clunk and no more rattle...

So, what I'm saying is...it doesn't take very much play in the drive line to make rattling noises....drop it if you can and check both front and rear U-joints for even a little bit of play in them (side to side)...that will be your noise...'

Could also be something rubbing against the drive shaft...as a favourite prank some people put things near or around the drive shaft to drive others nuts...so look for that too...

Ok thank you mark_88 just in time for the weekend. I will do what you suggested and get back to you. I have a mechanic that lives down the street from me and I'll ask him to take a look at it when it's off. After all, it is a 12y.o. Truck that I beat on a little.

Could also be a heat shield on the cat...there is one attached to the floorboards right over the cat on some trucks...or check the heat shield on the exhaust manifold...had one on my tempo that scared me...took it to a shop and they laughed...I laughed...till they showed me the bill to replace it...

Had this happen to me as well. I was able to take the ghetto route and fix it with some pipe clamps chained together. It worked beautifully (and still does some 4 years later). This was the only thing I could think of that could handle the heat

Checked it out and nothing. But put some time into it for preventative maintenance, so that time didn't go to waste. Thank all of you guys for your input.
