I am replacing the clutch on my 06 4wd and I have all new parts, disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing/slave cylinder. The problem I'm having is the tranny is about an inch away from the engine block and the throw out bearing is hitting the pressure plate fingers. Now I'm not sure if this is normal and I should just try and get some bolts in it or I was thinking about cracking the bleeder screw on the slave cylinder and pushing it back some. I've never done a clutch like this one so I'm unsure of the best direction.
Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks, Kevin K.

When I get stuck there I usually start by opening the bleeder screw so the slave an compress. You usually get hung up on the fluid in the slave because of the check valve on the line connection.

If that fails I go get some all-thread the same size and pitch as the tranny bolts and use nuts to draw it up. Sometimes you can use the long bolts in short holes to get it close enough to start the short bolts.

Be careful about drawing up with bolts. You could be up against the pilot bearing and not guided in the hole. That could cause damage to the pilot bearing and possibly the transmission.

I've never had a problem with the slave binding but I can see how it could happen. I agree, the best way to solve that problem is to open the bleeder a little.

If all else is assembled correctly by the time the slave is against the pressure plate the first stage of the pilot should be in the bearing. Still, care is warranted as you do run the risk of stripping the holes on the engine block if you over do it.

It doesn't happen every time, but it does happen. My experience has been that if you are pulling the trans for a worn clutch it is more likely to get stuck on the slave.

Thanks guys. I got it. I pulled it back out and tried pushing the throw out bearing in by hand and it was just spring pressure. I think I was just misaligned in the splines. Went back in with it and got to the same place, was able to wiggle it around and push it most of the way home. Then pulled it the final 3/8" with the bolts. It pulled home very easily. I am back on the road now. Thanks again.
