Is there a manual tranny that'll bolt onto a s'ploder 5.0? Obviously the computer would have to be changed, any chance that theres a computer that could be used for such a thing?

The search function didn't come up with much, any ideas would be appreciated :icon_thumby:

On a sidenote, I'm trying to get the 5.0 swap finished before the 10yr comes up...figured a 5.0 s'ploder as a donor would be the easiest, and cheapest, way to do it before then.

a t5 out of a 5.0 mustang. The t5 came in few cars, just do a search.

Thanks for the tip.

I'm assuming the computer from the same 5.0 'Stang would also work?

Any manual trans will work. The bellhousing pattern never changed on the small blocks after the switch from the 5 bolt bell to the 6 bolt in 1965. The closest computer for this would be the 93 Cobra's.

If you change to fox body mustang computer you'll have to change all the wiring also. You could have the trans functions progamed out of the Explorer computer.

you dont need a computer swap for a t5. pu t it in and roll

Bottledgt, I thought 5.0 exploders only came in autos? If thats true then swapping computer will be nessecary when going from auto to manual. Or I could go with 281's idea and have the auto trans programmed out of the computer....who does that?

i meant for running the trans. what would it hurt to leave the auto computer in it?

I was concerned about potential problems with the computer wanting to control engine rpm. It occured to me that with the absence of an auto trans, the computer might behave somewhat erratically and may not "think" properly.

Honestly I'm just getting ahead of myself, and I do tend to over-analyze.

I've been running a auto pcm in my conversion for a couple months now with no issues so far,,,for what it's worth I am running the Mazda 5 speed out of a F150. I would have liked to have a T5 but I have a 4x4 and couldn't find any adapters to make it work for me,,,NeilK

If you are running the Explorer 5.0L WITH the OBD-II/EEC-V...you will HAVE to get the ECM re-flashed to ignore all transmission controls. There was NEVER a 5.0L/Manual Transmission offered by Ford with OBD-II. The SN95 was the last 5.0L/Manual Trans combo ford put out, and it still had OBD-I/EEC-IV. It wasn't until the 96 model cam out with the 4.6L that Ford put OBD-II/EEC-V into the Mustang.

Reflash it....be done with it. Don't take a huge step BACKWARDS in swapping to a OBD-1.

You are incorrect, if u can find(although its rare as hell) a 1996 Bronco, it will be OBD2 and COULD come equiped with a 5spd from the factory, that would be the ideal wiring harness/trans t-case for your purposes, but that being said, id run a zf5 behind the 5.0 and get ur ecu reflashed....

Are you sure? I've never even heard of one....they must be REALLY rare...

I wonder how many were made.....
