An A4LD from another 2.3 1987? - 1994. Not sure about the 1987 but definitely no newer than 94.

putting an automatic in it would be a big mistake. the auto trans in those years were nothing...NOTHING but trouble. just do a search for A4LD

Mine hasn't been any trouble....however any 16 year old auto is going to be a huge gamble. If you find a used auto, plan on rebuilding it before installing.

I am wanting to do the same thing but with a built C3 pinto trans. I thought any 2.3 C3 would bolt up..guess I will reconsider...
