i have a '91 ranger with a 1354e and the shift motor just went out. i removed the motor and when i did i had an idea. how about a cable shifter to manually shift the electric shift transfer case. i think it could be done using the end housing on the shift motor and a cable that would rotate the gear wich rotates the shaft on the t-case. someone should make and sell these. i'd buy one. heck i might try and make one if i can find the time. anyway has anyone else made anything like this?

They do make one...its about 300 bucks.

first try cleaning the electrical connections, should work fine after that. Mine has never given me any problems other that being a little slower than a flip of the wrist(manual)
these motors are also very plentiful in auto recycling centers

last week I ripped out the center console and cut a hole in the floor so i can reach down and turn my custom key-way plate on the back of the transfer case.

takes about 1minute to switch gears and is pretty much the ultimate in ghetto-fabwork!

I plan on doing a write-up on it for everyone's amusement...
