manual hubs question

i have manual locking hubs with a dana 35 axle. the first time i pulled the hubs of to service my rotors/brakes i noticed these ribs around the inside of the hub that had been stripped a little bit (lots of metal shavings). i'm not talking about the actual teeth that locks the wheel to the axle. anyways i think that the reason these ribs are stripped is because the grooves in the spindle nuts strips them as the wheel spins, also the spindle was loose. i was just wondering if this is normal or if i might have wrong kind of hubs or something. i bought the truck with them already on and the hubs still lock
thanks

Mine did the same thing. My outer spindle nut worked loose. As long as the retaining clip is still in the hub and the internals did not explode out, you are fine. Just take the nuts off and remove the bearing and clean all the metal shavings out. Regrease and you will be good to go.
