I think that's a terrible idea. Our human brains have a response to danger that no machine could reproduce. And unlike a drone, this thing could be right next to you in traffic. And what happens if the computer has a glitch, people die. I think it's scary
Good point, but............any machine has that same possibility of a glitch that can result in harming people, heck People have glitches that cause them to hurt or kill other people.
So not just computer glitch, could be throttle glitch or brake glitch, even blowouts can cause deaths.
But IMO, there would be far fewer computer glitches than the now occurring human errors that cause accidents, up to and including texting while driving, they "made a new fool", lol.
Read a short story years ago, can't remember where but it stuck with me.
Short version:
Aliens finally showed up and landed on earth
They were friendly and offered to share their technology with us.
They had a transporter device that could move people and goods almost instantly from place to place in the US.
Only problem was that in order to use it 33,000 people had to be executed every year, the execution lottery had to be random, and had to include ages 0 to 100, no one gets immunity, your number comes up and without warning you would be killed.
"Oh my God, that is cruel and completely unacceptable, how could you even suggest that!!!"
U.S. motor vehicle deaths in 2012, 33,561 people
That is what we sacrifice for quicker and more comfortable transport.
33,000 people of random ages, so how unreasonable is that "Alien Transport"?
We all agree to this as acceptable losses for our convenience and comfort.
I personally feel that removing human error from driving would lead to fewer deaths on the roads, dieing from a computer glitch or from someone adding an "LOL" at end of a text doesn't make any difference to the person who is dead.
