Making your own coronavirus facemask

I would never have thought that TRS tech would turn to making your own facemasks. I've looked online for masks, and there are none readily available, and there's scammers and price gouging.

I decided to make my own. There's a ton of videos on how to make your own from a t-shirt, bandana, and pillow cases. Some require sewing, some just require scissors, an old t'shirt and rubberbands, and some just require an old t-shirt and scissors.

I went with an old t-shirt and scissors. You'll cut the shirt to have ties behind your head, instead of rubberbands behind your ears.

After looking at a bunch of videos I chose this one;

This one has you using 2-layers of a 100% cotton t-shirt. Other videos are just having you use one layer.

If you have a gap at the crown of your nose, you can fill that in with t-shirt scrap.

Maybe @Uncle Gump can pass this on to his pizza crew. Best thing is that it's washable and reusable.

People on FaceBook ae making them too. BUT be mindful of the materials used. We donated some of my little ones old panties to her for the elastic, she gave us 4 masks for the donation, even though we were just trying to help her, she insisted we protect ourselves. Good hearted woman.

I spoke to my mother yesterday evening... she told me my sister was making them masks using an old bra. She also suggested that maybe my wife could make them for us. I told her I really needed them to give to my crew at work and I didn't think my wife had enough old bras to go around.

I also called my manager and told him I ordered bandannas for everyone to wear at work... he replied... what color? I said black. He replied... no good. With the gang population in the Chicago using specific colors would not be a good idea. He said no black or red.

My mom is sewing masks for the nursing home in her retirement community. The need is real. There are nurses in hospitals that don't have masks to wear.

The example I posted doesn't need elastic or rubber bands. It's a quick and simple solution if there's no other options. I'm sure everyone has an old t-shirt they can cut up.

I did find out in the garage a total of 7 dust and particulate masks. I'm going to hand them out today.

So out of curiosity wouldn't certain furnace filters work? They supposedly filter viruses and mold etc. Plus you could probably get a few masks out of a filter or two.

Thanks. I got a hat from Amazon that has velcro on the front, and stuck my Anniversary Patch on it.

Constant masking of this sort is likely to increase the rate of respiratory infection among the healthy.

I only mask if I go into place posted asking for such or I can’t maintain a proper 6’ distance. Even though I’m used to wearing respirators or gas masks at work, I would rather bot if I don’t have to. The mask isn’t really going to keep you from getting it anyway. It’s more of a psychological eye candy than anything.

Now if you do have it, it will help prevent giving it to others but I suspect most of us have been exposed anyway and just didn’t know it.
