Making half doors/door pins

I got a set of Ranger doors at Pick-a-Part half off sale today, going to cut the and make half doors that I can switch with my regular doors. I was wondering how you guys do the door pins though. I was thinking grinding off the ones in the hinges now, and just putting in some bolts the same size. Thoughts? Or anyone have a guide, since I couldn't find one when I searched.

i was going to find some pins i could stick a cotter pin through at the hardware store:icon_thumby:
 
done on a toyota but same idea. cut out original pins and replace with quick disconnect ones. id be worried about just using bolts

Yeah, still a noob, my bro in law is helping me, but he's a Chevy guy who's never made half doors.

they should be at any hardware store. ive heard them called many different thing..hitch pins, wire lock pins, lock pins. But any home depot or hardware store should have thems
 
I use grade 8 bolts, lock washers, and nuts. Put my doors on for 5 months every winter and take them off for 7 months every summer. Been using the same bolts now for 4 years, haven't had any problems yet.
 
if you use bolts, it can and probably will wear your bushings out quicker than it should... but it would work

i know when i did the door on my mustang, the pins i bought from the mustang shop were the style that lazlow posted, they are made out of a hardened steel and won't wear nearly as quick as a bolt would, as tensile strength (bolts have) is different than abrasion resistance (pins have)
 
Bought some quick release pins from Harbor Freight, 20 pack for $10 bucks, and have 5 of the 3/8" but we are barely drilling the bushing to make it fit. So far doors are cut, we're gonna get some sheet metal and weld the tops, then finish the hinges on both sets of doors. Also need to make it so I can quick release the wires on my normal doors since I have power windows and speakers.
 
Well they are only half way done, so they are 1/4 doors? :icon_rofl:

I'm jealous of all the jeep guys around here that are going door-less...

But, I'm NOT buying a jeep.
 
hey, you are leaving the window frame and the entire exterior of the door, right? as it of course adds ridigitity to the body

also, i was told that on the newer trucks, the wiring goes back to a plug under the dash, not sure if that is true, or would be on yours, but it's worth looking into...
