[/IMG]ran out of gas in lower field, ran battery down after putting couple of gallons in, so decided to pull my truck with girlfriends truck. the ground was a little wet, not good traction, so had to get running start and thats when all hell broke loose. had girlfriend steering mine while i jerked with hers, chain slipped under max torque and ratta tatted up my windshield. got lucky that it didn't go thru windshield:icon_surprised:. girlfriend was a little shook up, not that i blame her.

holly FACK! i remember when my hood flew off my car ('86 sunbird, "the sunturd") smashed the windshield, i didnt even know what happened!

i would deffinatly be more afraid of the chain! the hood had the supports taken out, and it used hood pins to hold it down! (real classy!). only had one hood pin in and it ripped the hood where the one pin held it down.
the only thing that happened was, i all of the sudden saw nothing but black, and a big "powwww" noise! i though i blacked out and rolled it or something! put the new windshield in with bathtub caulking! it was a real winner.

When I was driving my (ex)boss's Heep, towing a car into the shop with it, he was in the car that I was pulling in, and after a wile of struggling with it, he got in and I got into the car, he took off and the chain broke, and BANG! straight threw the back window, It was king of funny, I saw it coming so I was keeping my head down below the dash. I just had that feeling, it was kind of funny.

:buttkick:yeah i think i fingered that one out about the time i seen that chain zinging at my truck but more important, at my girlfriend. at least she was a good sport about it . and yeah cuz i was kinda stoopid and didn't double check connections i deserve what i get:buttkick:

jeeze yall got lucky.

Some buddys of mine tried that. They hooked the chain to the saftey chain keeper on the back of the stuck pickup. It ripped out an the chain launched went through the back window of an 04 dodge 2500 an landed in the middle of the front seat

3 months ago i shackled to tow straps together to yank a stump out, after 6 good yanks i gave one good one, the choke i had on the stump came off and that shackle became a perjectile, it came through my back window and landed on my dash, im lucky it dident get the back of my head, so never shackle two tow straps to gether.

how do us ranger owners get so lucky, we never get hit with chains, close but no cigars. lol

during the heavy snow in cleveland about 3-4 weeks ago we had 2 rigs (semis) get stuck in the parking lot at work (large cold storage facility). i was still half tanked from the night before and drinking till 4 am and having to be at work at 7 am, imagine me half tanked drunk hiding behind another semi while the plow guys try to yank a semi to get it unstuck with a chain!

chains + large amounts of kinetic energy = trouble

they scare the sh*t out of me anyway.

if all you have is chains as a last resort at least put a some jackets/blankets over the chain to absorb some energy so it doesn't put a hole the size of texas in the back of your skull

When I was younger, my dad bought me an old honda 3 wheeler that had very poor compression, the only way to start it was to pull start it with another quad, then once it started and warmed up, you could pull the cord and it would start right up. Well, one time, we used a ratchet strap between the quad and the three wheeler, and got it up to speed, and when I popped the clutch, the strap broke at the quad end, and sent the strap whipping back at my face (old open face helmet on) got me pretty good, and had to pick strap fibers out of my cheek. :black_eye:
