Magazines

I guess I was under the mistaken impression that only magazine staff members were allowed to do articles rather than just anyone.

No. We got rid of the mag staff titles quite some time ago. We have a whole forum dedicated for people to submit their ideas to go in to either tech pages or a magazine issue.

I usually buy a magazine just for a special article that I think is unique. I bought a Diesel Power magazine in like September for that Cummins Ranger cause it was interesting, other then that I don't have any subscriptions, pretty much the same reasons everyone here lists.

I by the a good amount of off road mags and the diesel trucks to stay informed on the 6.0l PS trucks because i worked on them for so long.

its kinda funny that you started this topic jim, i frist heard of this place when TRS 2 was in a mag. i dont remember what mag though. i have it somewere, but i saw it and was like "I want my ranger to look like that lol" i used to buy them when money was good but now im too busey and most of my cash gos towards mods and fixing my truck(s).

i think it was the free mag......4x4 adventures...or something like that......thats where i seen it.

i still have a subscription to off-road , though now i am debating keeping it , since the new editor is taking it more in the full size truck and suv direction , though they did have a sick ranger in this last issue

my hot rod collection dates back to 81. my trucking mags date to 89.and my 4 wheel and off road back to 93..and i have not bought one in a year .canceled my hot rod sub,got a letter from them asking why i canceled after so many years. like Jim i think they all (the mags)have gone to commercial.and thats what i told hot rod. it seems all the articles revolve around ,get this kit from here and these parts from there and in a day you can have a hot rod that looks like everyone on the block. one that stands out was a spot on a s -10 that was a pro street, very nice truck then you find the stock v6 in it i was sickened. no need for any other media besides TRS.:headbang:

I used to have a sub to off road and 4 wheeler. At the time, i really liked them. Had a 79 bronco that i was planning on doing some things too. the mags had some great features in it. I loved seeing the mods some of the guys with bottom less wallets were doin. And the worst stuck features were always fun to read and look at.
For $10/yr, you couldn't beat it at the time. Anyone who paid more than their special introductory rate got ripped off. Also, the mags will send you a renewal months before it's actually due. you renew it, but guess what, you're old sub had 4 more months left on it, but now they started a new account for you that began when you renewed. So, you paid for a full yr, but only got 8 months. sneaky little trick they play.

i just pick them up, and look at the pics and put them down, every once in a while ill read the articles, now when i was in tech school i bought them to get me something to read

Mags

I have subscriptions to:
Petersen's 4WHEEL & OFF-ROAD
OFF-ROAD
4X4 BUILDER
CRAWL
I subscribed to off road magazines a few years ago when I started modding and off roading my Ranger. I was looking for tips and products to hepl me in my upgrades and kept up the subscriptions because it's the cheapest way to buy the mags. Crawl magazine is the latest subscription.
I would like to build a crawler some day.:icon_welder:

Other subscriptions are:
Street Rod builder
Rebel Rodz
ol'school RODS
Rod & Cuctom
I'd like to build a rat-rod some day.

Anyone have anymore comments about todays magazines?

I usually just flip though them at the store, nothing in there I couldn't ask and recieve here anyway, Most of the time its either diesel power or Hot rod or something. some pretty good stuff in those and not as many ad's in them or atleast they all are way more interesting.

Magazines are a waste of 5-6 bucks, then you just waste by throwing them away later.

Hey I like the idea of a worst stuck thread:icon_bounceblue:

We've seen some good input as to why some of you don't buy them anymore.

I'd like to get some input as to why those of you that DO buy them do so? I think once we see why people buy magazines, we'll better understand why some of you stopped buying them.

My purpose is to get insight at why you guys buy magazines and don't buy magazines.
