MAF Sensor - Hitachi?

Both Rock Auto and Amazon claim the Hitachi Mass Air Flow sensor for the 1994 4.0L OHV is the OEM part. Does anybody know if that is true? The remanufactured Motorcraft part requires a core charge at Rock Auto.

What brand MAF sensor have you used that worked good?

That is where I would get it. Pull it, clean it with the proper juice, install it. I''''''''d bet that damn few trucks were junked because the MAF was bad.

Update: I decided to go with a (rebuilt) Motorcraft MAF sensor from Rock Auto. The cost was $65, not including the refundable core charge. This is the second time I have replaced it, so I did not care to pay $25 for one from a junkyard that might die in 3 months.

I have had it installed for a couple of weeks, and the truck is running great after new spark plugs (well, 5 of 6 - you know the story), and the new MAF sensor.

Even with the original 1994 spark plugs that were gapped out to 0.100", it didn't run too bad.

This sensor should be the one of the first things you suspect when you have driveability problems. It can be bad in a way such that the Check Engine light does not come on. Unplug the connector and if the truck runs better, it either needs cleaning or replacing. The CEL will be ON if you unplug it.
