I Finally got my 87 TC engine running but the MAF sensor they sent me was no good. Now i have to buy a new one and was wondering what to buy. The oem replacement is 99$ at autozone but i only want to spend the money once. I heard Rousch makes one for 150$ but i need to know which is the best to use with my 87 tc motor and computer (EECIV). I have the aftermarket one now which has 3" inlets and outlets. Any input would be great.

Are you using a MAF or a VAM? If you are actually running a MAF. You probably should run a chip. I don't know of anyone using a MAF on a turbocoupe computer without running some type of chip.

Depending how much power you are planning on making you could get a 80mm MAF from a Crown Vic or Mustang and use that. A 80mm is middle of the road and you should have good results with it.

If I were you I would go over to turboford.org and search "MAF Conversion" and you will find all the info you need.

im sorry... i was misinformed. I am still running the VAM. I have also read that the 87's were 3in. what is the best VAM to run? Otherwise how difficult is the MAF conversion?

You can run any large VAM from from a 87-88 TC, they are all the same. The MAF conversion isn't that bad. Read up on it at Turboford, all the info is there

What is the matter with the VAM you have now?

also, the VAM, computer and injectors are matched. you have to make sure you have the right combo of them. if you have an 87 tc, it should be the large VAM (approx 3" dia inlet/outlet, funky box looking body), LA2 or LB2 computer, and brown top injectors.

What ever combo you use, you should be able to tune around. If you go larger without changin injectors, even though they are matched it should be all in the programming. You can reflash those old ecu's or add a chip, or go the handheld tuner route which I suggest no matter. what.

Ok so i have the new VAM now. I also figured out i have an 88 tc motor, brown top injectors, LA3 computer. all this came together so it should work out. I bought a new VAM from AutoZone but now i have a new problem. Now it wont idle with the VAM plugged in. If we unplug the vam it idles rough for about 30 sec and then it idles fine but you cant rev it at all. Then if you plug the VAM back in it dies. I also removed the vacuum line from the Barometric pressure sensor and it ran better. Any ideas??:icon_confused:
