My ranger 4.0 is running very rough and I have cleaned the MAF, but still rough. I unplugged the MAF and the truck runs great. Ideas?

sounds kind of like mine, except when i unplug it, it starts to bog under acceleration bad, plugged in or not

When the ECU doesn't see the MAF it will revert to a factory set of parameters so that the truck will run. If it is running better with it unplugged, I bet you need to replace it.

^ I've replaced mine with several junkyard mafs, most were spotless inside and out...but still has the same symptoms, bogging/loading up when accelerating, it doesnt do it if I baby the throttle, but any kind of load and it bogs and loads up. i traced the wires and there's no breaks or bare wires....could the iac or tps do any of this? my o2 sensors are brand new just replaced them and im getting spark to all cylinders (new plugs/wires)

It bogs down and idles rough, when you accelerate it cuts out and then will rev high. I have checked all the vac lines and all appear to be good. cleaned the IAC and MAF, and replaced the PCV.

Did you actually take the maf sensor apart an clean the elemente instruction in the tec libary.

Ok, I can relate to you. I've put a few posts up about my problem. My problem is: Slow acceleration -- it is fine but, with a quick acceleration -- it bogs and almost dies and I replaced 02's, plugs, wires, air filter, busted up the catalytic converters, and the MAF and TPC looked brand new.

The news is, is that I read this and unpluged mine. I can now burn my tires like never before and I can actually go above 67 MPH!! So do I replace the $105 part or keep it as it is, which is unplugged?
