once again im throwing the 5.0 swap up in the air, and i was thinking of a m5r2 and keeping my bw1350 and using an AA tcase adpter kit. i have a mech driven speedo and was wondering what year would be best to get the trans from so i dont have to deal with that problem. and what to do about the vss part of the wiring. would it throw a cel having it unhooked? or is there another option for the speedo? if its gonna be too bad ill just throw a carb mani on it and let it ride, but i'd like to have efi if i could

I believe most Ford trans' use the same hole. The vss or cable fits right in. (or VSS/cable combo on some trucks)

so did i do my searching right, the 4.9 trans no matter what the year, the shifter comes up in a better spot for the ranger, or is it just the 97+ 4.9?

'96 was the last year for the 4.9.

From what I have heard, the 97-03 (maybe up to '08??) 4.2 V-6 is the best fitting.

yea thats right, i dunno why i was thinking 4.9

so with one of those trans i just take the vss out and insert my speedo gear? my speedo gear now goes in the t-case. just wanna make sure i aint gonna have any holes or anything

The main case of the 4.2 M5ODR2 does not have a VSS hole. The 2WD 4.2 manual F150 has the VSS in the transmission tailhousing; the 4x4 version has it in the transfer case tailhousing. The 97~98 BW4406 t-case used behind the M5ODR2 uses a gear driven signal generator for VSS; 99~2003 uses a toothwheel sensor.

Now, back to your project. Since you're reusing the 1350, why not just keep the speedo cable there??

so the 4x4 version doesnt even have a hole on the trans or tailhousing? thats good because my speedo mounts in the tcase anyways
