New user but long time lurker.
I have a quick question for anyone that has rebuild experience on the m5r1.
I got it all apart and I've noticed It has fibrous-lined synchro blocking rings. I haven't seen a rebuild kit that has them. They all look like solid brass.
Is this ok or should I look harder for the fibrous type?

06 ranger 2.3. The transmission has 300,000+ miles on it but looks practically new inside. I just (need) to replace the 5th/reverse slider and 3/4 slider. Most of my driving is shifting between 4th and 5th about 30 times an hour... damn hills.
The synchros actually look and feel fantastic but I figured while I have it apart I'd just do it up with new bearings and the whole 9.

Moved this to the transmission forum

Surprised nobody has an answer. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that the brass ones are likely an improvement or something. I know some things like the double wrap band in the A4LD automatic is non-existent anymore because the single wrap was proven to be better, so that may be the reason in your situation. They may have gone to the fiber to try and cut down on transmission noise but found the brass holds up better. Not sure if that’s actually the case, but it seems logical

Welcome to the forums, BTW

I can't really answer the question but I will offer this - I would bet that most of us here that would are not afraid to tear a transmission apart, are not driving anything as new as an '06 quite yet. The newest one I have been inside was a '98.

There were some differences in the M5R1s after 2001 and as far as I know the major change was the HD version that was behind 4.0 V6s. They are very similar yet different enough and the rebuild kits are mega expensive.

If anyone wants to send me a post '01 trans for analysis and examination I accept donations 🤡
