I did a search and really didn't find anything,

I found a 1992 4.0L 4x4 ranger for sale, manual transmission is the only thing wrong with it and I was told one of the shifting forks broke.I'm assuming its a M5OD. If this broke what else is probably wrong with the transmission? I located a 2wd M50d, could I possibly swap the internals from the 2wd over to the 4x4? There is also a ton of newer auto trannys from explorers in the junkyard, like 1996+ would these be any good for a swap?

all of the internals from the 2wd should swap into the 4x4 except for the shafts...i got my replacement O/D gear out of a 2wd and it dropped right into my 4x4.

Thanks for the quick response. Do you think the tailshaft would be in good condition ( be reused) seeing how a shifting fork broke?

it should be just fine, i don't see the shift fork breaking affecting the tail shaft. maybe if a gear shattered or something...but it should be fine.
