So, I havent been able to find anything specific on my question. Since 2.3l 4wd trannies are getting more and more scarce, can I swap a 4wd tailshat housing off a 4.0l m5od?

Yes but you also need to swap the main/output shaft too which requires almost a full tear down of the tranny.

Ok, cool. That is not the biggest problem in the world. Domyou know if the 4.0 gear set has a different 1-5 ratio compared to the 2.3 trans?

If you havent gathered, I am planing a turbo swap. Along with a D30 swap.

4.0 use a different 1st-3rd gear set, all other m5ods use the same. Theoretically you can take the main shaft from a 3.0 with everything still on it and slap it right into the 2wd 2.3 trans, bolt the 4x4 tail shat on & be done but I'm not a huge fan of mix & matching used gear sets. Id prefer to swap the original gears over to the new main shaft.

4.0 has a higher OD ratio too. 4th is the only gear shared with the other versions.

OD is same on all M5OD-R1/R1HDs. Only 1st, 2nd, 3rd is different on the 4.0L version.

4.0l:
1st = 3.40
2nd = 2.05
3rd = 1.31
4th = 1.00
5th = 0.79
Rev = 3.40

All others:
1st = 3.72
2nd = 2.20
3rd = 1.50
4th = 1.00
5th = 0.79
Rev = 3.40
