I live out in NJ and am having one hell of a time locating these damn bushings for purchase.... Any suggestions?

Ford dealer has never failed for me... (pt# 1L2Z-7228-AA)

With the M5OD still in current production they should be available.

or get a hurst shifter and be forever rid of the bushing problem. my ford dealer want to sell me the whole top cover assy, with shifter forks! you would think that with this design, with nylon bushings that have no choice but to fail someday, they would have a kit right there at the parts counter on a neat little display rack. but nope. not the case.

If you want to stay OEM, go for that Ebay kit for $16 bucks . . . . I wasn't aware of that kit, but did find the original parts at a local Ford dealer. The first one I went to didn't stock them, but they did a search around Denver and found me a dealer who had them in stock. Spendy tho -

Ford p/n
1L2Z-7Z120-AA Spring Washer $8.73 each (if needed)
1L2Z-7228-AA Seat (nylon bushing) $9.98 each (upper and lower same)
8ETZ-7E018-A Spacer $1.83 (if needed)
8ETZ-7207-B Gasket $4.23

Dealer was even kind enough to print me out an exploded illustration of the tranny, with p/n's. I didn't replace the tower cover, and really needed the soft rubber seal that goes into it (18 yrs old), but that can wait.

You'll need to drive out the two locating pins in order to get the lower Seat into the top of the transmission case, but that was easy with a drift and small peen. Goes back into position easy enough, to locate the ball end of the shifter also.

Shift lever assy is now nice and tight; don't have to reach into my passenger's lap to throw it into reverse. However, be advised this will not solve any problem with you finding 1st or Rev from a stop - that's what I was trying to fix, but looks like I'll be looking at the Slave Cylinder next . . . .
