so i got my v8 swap all but done in my 87 ranger. 91 t-bird 5.0 with a e303 cam, dura spark dist, edelbrock intake and carb. then for the trans i have a 88 f150 m5od-r2 with a np205 t-case and new flywheel/clutch. my problem is my clutch wont fully disengage. it drags when coming to a stop, and cant shift. im fairly certian i have the clutch system fully bled out, and have full travel at my master cyl. looking through the bellhousing i can see my throwout bearing traveling about a half inch.

im using my rangers factory 87 master cyl, and the 88 f150's slave cyl. i looked up the part numbers and the fm146 shares the same bolt on slave cylinder as the m50d.

what can i be missing to not have my clutch disengage fully? do i need to adapt in a f150 master cyl? or was my new, but stock replacment clutch made to incorect tolerances? any advice from others that have adapted in a m5od-r2 please shoot me some advice! thanks!

Did you use the block plate between the motor and transmission ? And what did you use for the clutch line between the master and slave ?

These Ford clutch products are notoriously hard to bleed. I would persue that further.

i did use a block plate. as for the line i parted out a extended cab 88ranger last year that had a rubber line from the master cyl to the slave.

doing some internet looking it appears that my master is a .75inch bore, and a 89-90 ranger with a 4.0 would have a .875 bore master. shuld i try and find one of the bigger masters and see what that does?

Rubber line isn't going to cut it. Unless it's made specifically for hydraulic pressure applications. Ford used a hard plastic line for this. You may need the 7/8 bore master cylinder, I used one in mine with the McCleod hydro throwout bearing. Might also want to get someone to observe the firewall for flexing when you use the clutch, that was a problem I had with mine. Until one day the firewall failed and I had to repair and reinforce it.

it is a hydraulic type rubber line for a ford clutch, high pressure end fittings that are crimped on and no adapters at all. the crimped on pieces are the ford nipple at one end and the other is the big residual valve thing.
