Before everyone gets wigged out, yes I know there is plenty of info on swapping an M5OD-R1 transmission to a 2.9/4.0. The issue is the AND there is plenty of information stating you CAN swap an M5OD from a 2.3 engine to a 2.9/4.0 engine, and also info stating you CANNOT swap a 2.3 to a 2.9.

Is there someone that can verify this? The lasted info I have is from a FORD Mechanic expert that says if the trans from the 2.3 is an M5OD trans, then it WILL bolt to a 2.9 engine, yet there is more info out there stating this CANNOT be done.

I have access to an M5OD 4x4 trans that they said is out of a 2.3, but don't want to pay the money if this won't end up working.

Thanks

Wrong bellhousing pattern. You need one from a 4.0. Bellhousings are not interchangeable because they are a part of the transmission. Your said Ford mechanic isn't a real Ford mechanic.

^ What he said. However, if there is already a M5OD behind the 2.9 you can swap the internals.

I'm freaking out man You are freaking out man...........

some expert you got buddy, you already know more than him just by researching on this lil ol humble forum:icon_rofl:

PS: Name that movie^:icon_surprised:

Littering and, littering and, littering and

In detail the bellhousing for a 2.9/4.0 is larger in diameter than
the 2.3 belhousing, the bolt holes are located differently and the
starter is mounted on the opposite side of the engine.

Internally the parts as-a-set are interchangeable. the only failure
to interchange parts are related to year-to-year running changes
made inside the trans (4.0 transmission differences are a bit more profound)

IF you need a bare transmission case for a 2.9 and you already
have the 2.3 trans send me a PM.

Say car Ramrod!

To the OP even though I have apparently jacked the thread on you (sorry), you got AllanD to weigh in on your swap question so now you have your answer. He knows these things like the back of his hand:icon_thumby:

I swear to God, I'll pistol whip the next guy who says shenanigans!

Hey Farva, What's the name of that restaurant you like, with all the goofy s#!t on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?

Wow, I got the answer I was looking for. The info that stated it could be done actually came from the Just Answer website that's an add on this website, so I guess those guys on there are not experts. When I did a search, someone had already asked the question on there and they said it could be done, so I was wondering then if I was missing something.

Thanks for the help and all!
