trucks an 87 b2, FI 2.9 had a a4ld that i broke the case on. Swapped in a junk yard m5od and and having some issues. Installed new slave/master reused line. bled well, no air, decent pressure. Start it up wont shift into gear just grinds to hell! repeated bleed (more than once) 2xchecked everything. still no go. opened up the view hole (large rubber grommet on bell housing) slaves not moving. something is ****ed up along the way, or?? I used a clutch kit for 87 b2 because its all the same right? Or is the 4.0 larger?? any help would be appreciated

The M5OD was not available on the 87 B2 so it is probably the wrong slave. You could look on Rock Auto at the 2 part numbers to see if there the same.Even if it's wrong I think it should move though. When I bleed my clutch I had to use a food syringe and push it up from the bottom there are a lot of tactics here on the website.I try to think how the master is pushing in little increments to push out air going strait down as the air keeps trying to climb up.To help me understand what i'm fighting.

Did you use the slave from an 87? If so how did you get it in?

I used parts from a 91 Explorer when I swapped the M5OD into my 87 and it worked fine.

Slave/trans is 94 expo. Issue ended up being that I had a clutch kit/flywheel for a b2 and it's not the same as for the 4.0, swapped it out at he parts store and I've got some time tonight so ill start in on the assembly,

Slave bled fine before just didn't push on pressure plate enough to disengage the clutch disc. I didn't get a chance to do a side by side of the parts at the store has anyone taken measurements of them? (thickness, I know diameter varies by 1-1/8") I'm thinking the 4.0 setup must be about 1/4"-3/8" thicker all together to compensate

i just did an m5od swap in my 87 ranger. i upgraded the flywheel from the 4.0 for the bigger clutch and flywheel, used the starter as well, it works really well
