So I have a 94 b4000 that needs a new manual transmission.. I found one at the local jy out of a 98 explorer 4.0 for a real good price, IMO. I've read up on the swap from the sohc transmissions into the ohv's but I just would like some clarification before I pull the tranny and buy it. I know I need to get the shifter with it as well and I have a push button transfer case so it should bolt right in except for the one bolt hole on the tranny side right? I'm almost 100% sure its what I need so with that, I'm looking for some transmission pulling tips as far as out of a junkyard because they don't allow jacks so I'm wondering how to go about taking the weight of the transmission off of the crossmember to get it unbolted and out of the way. Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

no jacks? ohh f them.... im bout to grab an exp axle n springs... hope this place dont tell me that crap. cut what you can to make it easier.

The Jy that I go to would flip it over so you could get to the trany. They dont care to junk $1000 worth of parts for $100 part.

Someone must have dropped one on themselves and sued......lame but i can see it happening in a muddy junkyard with no good surface to jack from.

just get a buddy to go along and it will be cake put a tire with no rim under it so you can get it off the engine and just drop it if needed. me and a buddy pulled a t-5 tranny and in 45minutes had it up to the front office.

Thanks for the tips I guess I should've remembered from the clutch job how light these transmissions are shouldn't be too bad as long as I can get a break from the rain. The local jy is anal about everything I was real surprised that they gave me a reasonable price. But thanks again I'm looking forward to a quiet transmission :yahoo:

The M5OD aint that heavy, one person job depending on your size... Just stack a couple tires under it, and let gravity do all the work...

Just to follow up...I got that transmission and swapped it in today and wow what a difference from a noisy to a quiet transmission. But I still have one question.. I thought in 97 the explorers went to the m5od-hd. The engine in the explorer definitely said sohc on it and the trans has the shifter at 90 degrees to the regular m5od which is what i've heard, however there is no extra bolt hole on the transmission... I'm confused :icon_confused:
