Hello to all,

I'm new here and converting a 2wd m50 to 4wd because my
FM145 blew.
Does anyone have a link to a good service manual for these
with end play tolerances for proper shimming etc....

Thanks to any and all who have info on this

the only manual that explains everything are the factory Ford Service manuals.

Avoid the 1988 manual because the technical specs in the transmission section is loaded with numerical typos

Yeah you have to measure a few things in order to compute the measurement for your shim(s). The factory Ford manuals explain the process, and gives pt#s for the various shim thicknesses (check Ebay, there's always factory manuals available there). Final end play on the input shaft should be something around 0.002-0.006" on the M5OD IIRC.
