My 88 Ranger 2.9 5speed has been very difficult to shift into reverse and 5th gear. The other gears are shifting well. I have the transmission out to replace the clutch so it is a good time to fix the shift problem also. With the top cover removed I can easily, by hand, slide one thru four into gear. It takes a mallet and firm tapping to move the 5/R shift fork lever. I will get deeper into this for sure but it would be nice to have some suggestions of what to expect and look for. I am confident, careful, and not in a hurry.
