My 93 2.3 with the M50D trans makes a rattling noise, and it goes away when I push the clutch pedal down. I looked on ALLDATA at work and there's a TSB sayin it was caused by some kind of springs or somethin. My question is should I be worried about it? It's done it since I bought the truck a year ago, and drives just fine. The noise just aggravaties me

Sounds like you are hearing back lash in the trans gears. My truck has been doing this on and off for a couple of years now and never gave me any problems. I would just make sure your fluid level is full and change out the fluid in your trans. Mine was half way down with old dirty fluid, I changed it and it seems to quiet down. Hope this helps.

It could be a number of things...

Throwout bearing
Input shaft bearing

Can you describe the rattling noise better?
Does it increase in noise as you increase in speed?
All gears, including neutral?
Worse under load or coasting in neutral?

Mine has had a (sounds like light rolling rattle) noise at idle that would go away when the clutch is depressed for probably 8 years now. Noise isn't there (or isn't noticeable anyway) when in gear and driving.
Checking the fluid, it has always remained a bright pink so I haven't worried too much about it. Not sure what it is but it hasn't gotten any worse since I first noticed it.

:dunno:

Alright, I change oil and do brakes for a living, and I notice I'll pull in a ranger every once in a while that does the same thing, which kinda made me think it was a common thing and I saw the TSB on ALLDATA, so I just wanted to ask yall to make sure
