So if I unbolt the slave on my m5od, what's behind that cover? Is it possible to get the input shaft out from there leaving the rest of the mainshaft behind? I need to replace an input shaft bearing, trying to figure out the easiest way to do that.

Thoughts? Anyone have an exploded diagram of this transmission?

I haven't taken apart my project M5OD, yet, but if they're like most the other transmissions, behind the cover should be the input shaft bearing. The cover helps retain it.

Once the bearing is out the input shaft should come out (just a guess), and be careful not to drop the other bearings all over the inside of the case. The mainshaft has two parts.

Hmm... the Tech Library doesn't have an exploded M5OD view.. I'll have to upload the one from my book later tonight...

you won't get that bearing or the input shaft out through the front cover.

to answer your question, the is a countershaft bearing, the input shaft bearing race. and some shims.

you'll need to pull the transmission apart.

if you're doing it to fix the 1, 2, 3, 5, Reverse whine like i did. it didn't work and i still have the whine

while your in there replace the slave cylinder.

yup, done, I've already been in there to change the clutch. I've removed the transmission so many times for various screwups on my part, I can get it out in about two hours now ;)

no, it's actually a loping tick-tick, tick-tick, tick-tick noise I can hear at idle in neutral. when I push the clutch in it goes away. From what I read, that's a classic symptom of a bad input shaft bearing.

Guess it's comming apart then.
