So today I have replaced my shift rail plugs with hightemp silicon holding freeze plugs. I drained my trans via the drain bolt. I then filled with Valvoline ATF Micron V trans via the hand pump method through the fill hole. Now my question is. I drained till a drop would come out of the drain hole once every 2 seconds or so. Then I replaced the drain bolt plug. I filled through the fill plug 2.6 qts ( i have read to fill as low as 2.4 and as high as 2.8 qrts so I felt 2.6 was a nice medium). I have also read that you should fill it till it comes out of a hole...I have read till it comes out of the drain ( which occured at less then a qrt for me) or till it comes out of the fill hole...How do I know if i put a good amount?

hope that wasnt to jumbled and thanks for responses.

ps I obviously cant drive to see how it shifts for 24 hrs due to the shift rail plugs needing the silicone to fully cure...

When filling the M5OD I generally take the shifter and the fill plug out and pour fluid through the shifter hole until it comes pouring out the fill plug hole. Then I get the plug back in as quick as I can.

Just remove the fill plug, fill until it oozes out of the fill whole at a steady pace and your good. Run it for a day or so, let it cool down on a level surface and check it again, Pull you fill plug and if it starts to run out your okay, if not try and peek inside or stick your pinky in the hole and if you can touch the fluid your good. If you like me and have big ol'pickle fingers have a friend help you.

pulled the plug and can fit the tip of my little finger in to the first joint and fluid touches to the top of my fingernail. Ill take it for a spin tomm and let it cool down and recheck and fill accordingly to the top again. thanks all

Use one of these pumps to fill the transmission from underneath. It screws into the bottle of fluid, and has a nozzle on the end of the hose that has teeth that lock into the threads so you can have two hands free to pump with. Pump till the fluid comes running out, squeeze the tabs and get the nozzle out and screw the plug in. I did this just the other day on mine, during a oil filter change. Very easy. I always get 3 qts in the transmission.

I use Amsoil quart bottles of ATF and the pump fits perfectly in their oversize spouts and matches the threads on the bottle.
