Trying to find a new fluid for my M5 in my '00

Merc V is like tap water and i have to double clutch third all the time and it's getting irritating.

Was thinking of Pennzoil Syncromesh or Redline MTL.

anybody used either of those?

The clearances in the M5OD are pretty tight. Putting fluid that is much thicker than Merc V in it will cause more shifting issues than it will help.

3rd gear may just have a bad syncro. I know my dad absolutely killed the number 3 syncro in my old transmission. Try putting it in 4th before 3rd, it can help line up the teeth.

I use Redline ATF-D4 in my 2000 and I like it.
I tried using Redline MTL and it works great in the summer but when temps drop in the 50's, it's a bitch to shift until the tranny warms up which may take a while. I also ran a mixture of 1 qt MTL and 2 qts of D4 and that worked as well :headbang:

I recently switched to the SuperTech Mercon from Wal-Mart from Castrol Mercon, and I kid you not it shifts like butter now! First and second were hard to shift in before, but now the trans shifts so much smoother :D

I switched mine to Redline MTL, but that was only to quiet gear noise and get me by until I can rebuild it. What is said above is correct, shifting can be difficult when it's cold out, particularly below freezing. When it warms up after a few miles it's fine though. When it's warm shifting is much improved over anything else I tried in it.

I'd recommend Redline D4 if yours is not making any excessive noise and you live in a cold climate.

i have ran pennzoil sycromesh with no bad effects. but if you already have a issue, a different oil will unlikely make things better. my transmission goes up through the gears fine, but doesnt like to be downshifted into 2nd gear. i found though if when i go to downshift if i tap the gas pedal while the clutch is pressed in as im about to down shift, it goes right in. dont know if its a syncro issue, but my method works.

You're double clutching to get into third...so you are having problems downshifting then?
What RPM are you trying to get into third at?

Don't run anything thicker than ATF.
