Lug Nuts

I bought a set of mustang wheels for my 98 ranger and just mounted the tires today. I went to put the new wheels and tires on, and the rears were fine, but in the front, the studs don't stick out far enough to get my stock lug nuts on because of the hub. I guess I need the lug nuts that go through the holes. Does anyone know what size I need and where to get them?

If you bought the bullitt wheels like I have, the front hubs on the rotors either need to be machined down (I did mine on a brake lathe where I work at), or the lips that the center cap clips to needs to be machined off (NOT EASY cuz the wheels are a very hard casting!!!).......

I think I'm just going to get some longer studs for my truck and use the stock lug nuts.

ok, I completely misunderstood what you were saying when I first replied.

So, I guess i'm going to take the truck to a machine shop and have them take a little off the hubs. How much did you have to take off for them to fit right?

I had to machine about 1/4" inch off the hub..... the easiest way to do it is when you get the rotor hubs machined, take one your wheels with you to make sure they machine enough off the hub for the wheel to fit properly.... I've had mine done like this for over a year now, and have had absolutely no problems!!!! Hope this helps you out!!!

ok, so should I just have the hubs machined off or would it be easier to just take the wheels to a machine shop and have them take 1/4" of each center hole?

Having the rotor hubs machined is WAY easier!!! But if you ever change rotors, you'll have to get the new ones machined to fit.........

Will I be able to use my stock ranger lug nuts on the front also with the new wheels after I get my hubs machined?

called a machine shop today, and they said they don't have a lathe big enough to do my rotor hubs. These wheels are getting to be more of a pain in the a** than they are worth

If they have a lathe to machine brake drums, its a pretty simple job to do...... It took me about half an hour to do both of my rotors.....

The trick to it is to turn the cutting arm over 180 degrees, then start cutting from the lip of the hub outward until enough is machined off for the wheel to fit over it...... do your lugnuts have the lip to hold the center cap on or the ones with the little chrome shell over them???? Either way, you should be able to use your old lug nuts......

Let me know how things go..... too bad you're so far away, or I'd cut your rotors for you myself!!!!!

I know this is an old thread, but I'm running into the same issue with my 90. My question is; are you running any spacers at all Katybugsdad? If so, what brand, part number, size, etc.? Also; do your center caps fit still? If you have any other useful info, it would greatly be appreciated. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg in trial and error, but I'm ready to get these wheels on! :icon_hornsup:

Hey dcranger90, My wheels came off a 2004 Mustang GT and I'm using no spacers at all... the offset on the wheels is perfect!!!! My front center caps don't fit anymore, but when I come up with a way to be able to install them, you guys will DEFINITELY be the first to know!!!!!
