Lucas Oil Tranny Fix

So, I was in AutoZone today to clear a code on my girl's van and I noticed some of the Lucas Oil Transmission Fix on the shelf. I was reading it and I was thinking that it might be able to help me out because it said it stops leaks too. I think my Rear main seal is leaking.

Anybody have any experience with this? :dunno: It sounds too good to be true; I'm usually pretty weary of additives.

So whatcha guys think?
 
In my opinion its not a good idea. What lucas and other similar products do is swell up the seals and the clutch materials in the auto transmission.

Causing them to wear out faster since the seal or clutch is now larger it will press harder against what ever the opposing surface is. and when it starts to wear off the leaks are actually bigger. clutches slip more.

I wouldnt use this stuff except as a last ditch Need to buy time before the transmission really fails.
 
I've used the Lucas trans and other products for at least 10 years. I have yet to find a better product for the price. BG offers similar products that we sell to customers in the shop. They also work very well but are difficult to find without being a commerical facility and are pricy. Keep in mind, additives will not fix a worn out transmission. I use a bottle every fluid change as a preventative. As a side benifit, some additives will also reduce trans fluid temperatures, prolonging the lifespan of components.
 
Lucas transmission treatment is the best. IMO, I had a 3spd auto(C-3) with a very bad leak at the gear selector shaft input....


Had to use a entire bottle(and could use two bottles if I needed) and it worked, the leak was 95% contained.

Two stop leak products that work, Bar's Leak for Radiators, and Lucas transmission treatment.
 
Rear main seal, you talking about the real tail seal where the drive shaft goes into the transmission? I would be tempted to replace the seal. They are cheap enough, I've never done one on an A4LD, but on my AOD it was "easy enough" to replace.

I've used it in a TH350 that slipped when cold and it seemed to help. I later changed the filter and cleaned the bottom of the pan out when I did a 327ci swap and I don't recall ever having to add more after that. Still have pics of the bottom of that pan somewhere, holy crap, freaking mountains of material.
