i just bought a 2002 4.0 sohc about a month ago. did some work to it starter, flywheel and some electrical problems. decided to change the oil when i did i used havoline 5-30 and a quart of lucas now after its warmed up and idles a couple of minutes i hear the timing chains slap. does anyone think i should have done without the lucas. the truck has 230,000 miles. i use it in my 2.9 and 4.0 ohv with no problem.

Lucas is garbage and does not benefit any engine in any way. I wouldn't use that crap in my lawnmower. From now on just use 5w30 with no additives.

After the tests I saw a few years back, I wouldn't recommend Lucas products to my enemies or anyone else for that matter.

I have been using Rotella T6 5w-40 in everything I own (except the wife's new car) for years, with no issues.

There used to be a video on Youtube showing how it bubbles under heat. From what I've read Lucas is not a mechanic in a bottle - it's a shady mechanic in a bottle.

after listening to the engine run i realize that i will have to tear into it it needs timing chain job. thats what i get bought it not running at a silent auction for $360. how hard is timing chain job on a 4.0 sohc. i am going to do the job reguardless.does anyone know where the cheapest place to get the cam crank hold tool is

You'll need to take the engine out of the truck to get to the rear chain/guide. It would probably be easier to just a get a lower-mileage junkyard engine instead of fixing that one. Get one from a 2004 or later truck. They have the updated timing chain guides that you won't have any problems with.

all the engines i have found have100,000-200,000 miles and they want $900 and $200 shipping they offer warranty but you have to change timing chain for the warranty to be good i think i will just try chains and tensioners first.and found the tool from a local shop that closed down the guy just want a deposit incase i break it or lose it

I went through that 2 years ago, lost oil press. Timing chain skipped teeth, killed the valves. My soulution.... Local junk yard motor with 20k on it for $800

Killed the valves...? I'm pretty sure the 4.0L is a non interference motor. At least pre 1998 ones.

replaced timing chains and guides only crank to jackshaft was bad but i did them all didnt have a balance shaft to worry about started truck up this morning sounds good the reason it took so long was i would only work on it for about 2 hours a day and a trip to north carolina but i was in no hurry

all i have to say is that our forklift at home had a bad hydraulic leak. dad put a quart of Lucas power steering leak stop in it and it did stop the leak and it has been over a year and still no leak.

now at work we run 10 5000 lbs forklifts and they run Rotella 15w40 in them and try to change the oil every 200 hours "give more than take" and they got one forklift with over 14000 hours on it and the motor has never been worked on besides a tone up every 5 years. and 3 others with 10000 hours on them and there the same story. and they get used very i mean very hard!! i think that Rotella is really good oil at leat in a 4 cylinder nissan motor
