anyone on here done an ls1 4x4 swap yet? I just picked up a free ls1 and in search of an nv4500 trans to go behind it. was just looking for some tips if anyone has done it before. i've got a 97 x-cab 4x4 4.0L 5 speed. cant find anything other than people doing an LS engine in a 2wd.

You will need to find the overall width of the 5.7l LS1 V8 to see if it would be a practical swap.
Ford 5.0l(302) measures 19" wide and is a tight squeeze.
5.0l length is 28" and height 21"

Body lift will get you more room, but width wise the heater box and steering linkage becomes the issue, you can always run without a heater, but don't recommending running without steering :)

302 tight fit??????????????:shok:

you mean a 502?:icon_confused:

we have a few here with 4x4 swaps, though in sas applications. if you want to keep the stock ttb you may have to go with a metal pan. there are many in fullsize ford and ranger trucks out on the desert scene in 2wd and 4x4 form.

the ls platform engine would be my first choice in todays market for a 4x4 application with mid size or better tires.

with an sas it would be ridiculously easy to use.

they have a cast steel type of exhaust manifolds so using sch 40pipe you can mod the manifolds to suit your needs with a mig welder and fit up v bands for exhaust. they tolerate turbo charging and power adders to ridiculous powerlevels....levels that a 302 stock block would not dare to dream.

they are compact and current and readily available with 300 plus hp. really easy to fit up.

that is a 350 compared to the engine in my truck....the 350 is the smaller engine. a 302 is smaller yet....and the ls is about the same as the 350.

just sayin:dunno:
