Check out the mini-truck suspension sub-forum. Lot of good info in there for lowering the I beam trucks.

Get an explrer axle from the junk yard and install it over the springs like it is made to be in the explorer then c-notch the frame and if you wanna go lower you can buy blocks for it. The front is harder but look up ranger dream beams

Why? You can flip the stock axle cheaper than you can buy and install an Explorer axle. His stock axle is probably a 7.5" which is lighter and has a smaller ring gear that takes less power to turn, which is great for installing a smaller engine like he is planning to do.

I just saw it as a simpler way and he can get lsd. Its like $120 for an axle at my local junkyard

He's going for a show truck, so I doubt that he'll care whether the rear is open, limited slip, or locked. Last I looked flip brackets for a 7.5" rear can be gotten for about $50 (it's been a while). With just flipping the axle you don't have to worry about any fab work or messing with the brakes. With an Explorer axle you have to fab shock mounts (or come up with an extra driver side spring plate), and adapt the disk brakes and parking brake to the truck. Their is also the issue of the driveshaft flange when swapping axles, there were a few different ones used during the years, but I can't recall the years or reasons for the changes.
