Ok I'm new to this fourm thing.. I am putting a ford 255 v8 bored .40 over with a large cam and higher comp pistons , 4 barrel edelbrock carb with performer intake. In my 1992 ford 2.3 ranger after i get it in can you lower then ranger at all? And also how big of tires can i fit for dragging. Also what is a ford C5 tranny no one i know has heard of them and think i am a idiot for asking about them. I have only heard of ford C4 and C6.. what would be the best auto tranny to use, And can i use stock manifolds and just mod them to go around frame rails. Also any other tips for this engine swap would be greatly appreciate i am kinda goin trial and error here. thanks fisher

Yes you can still lower your ranger. A c-4 tranny would probably be your best bet. If you want your motor to "breathe" properly you will need headers. As far as tires go, you'll have to do some measuring to see how big a tire will fit after you have lowered it. Good Luck

First off, don't waste your time swapping in a 255. That motor was a complete TURD. Small ports, valves, intake, weak crank. Swapping a hotter cam will do nothing for it. Ditto for a 4 bbl carb. The ports and valves aren't large enough to make gains from breathing improvements. Neither will the pistons. And an aftermarket intake's ports aren't going to match the 255 heads. Don't bother swapping 302 heads on, the valves are too large for the 255's bore size, they'll hit the deck. ........................................... There were really two different C5's, the first was the large bell, pan fill heavy duty C4 used in trucks in the 70's. Then in the early 80's, Ford modified the C4 with a lockup converter feature and called this a C-5 as well. It, too has a larger bell that's also deeper to accomodate the lockup converter's dimensions. Lowering may be a problem with either model. access to the bellhousing bolts will be for sure.
