got an 86 bronco II 2.9 with 5 speed manual toyo kogyo and 3.73's. Get's 18'ish average town driving yet 16'ish on the freeway (60-70 mph). Any ideas as to why and what I should maybe be looking for in the way of tuneup or repairs?

you didn't add your tire size. If you put larger tires on = more weight and takes more gas to push them faster.

235/75/15's. Not all that much larger than stock. Same size I had on my 89 years ago. That truck was giving me 23-25 on the freeway.

I would check your air filter, tire pressure, spark plugs, engine oil. Pretty much anything that would rob your engine of power will give you bad fuel mileage.
