low temp problem

Welll... Does the upper radiator hose stay cold, until, all at once, it gets hot? That is the indication of a stat that is working.

If it gets warm, warmer, starting as soon as the engine is fired up, or within a short while, coolant is leaking past the stat, either past the rubber donut gasket or past the moving plug of the stat. Even a small gap between the plugging plate and the stat outer housing will allow coolant flow. It should seal such that you cannot see light around the perimeter of the moving part.

So, does it warm, or stay cool and then get HOT?

Have you tried yelling at it?

I'm sure that has happened by now... but did he try unplugging it and plugging it back in?

have raised unit up to bleed system. installed bleed valve in small line from heater hose to block. highest point in cooling system and let bleed out . will recheck t-stat with water in pan for correct temp ,will also check plug parts number and clearance ,radiator cap. thank you for all info. funny this is a common problem on these units. will let you know.

yes I have yelled at it. by the way this unit is equipped with a rev limit in computer. don't know what rpm.

3k in neutral/park.

Is the water outlet the factory one? When I did my stat, I also bought a new water outlet/stat housing because the original was pretty icky. The truck would not warm up. During winter, the needle on my temp gauge didn't even come off its seat. I tried all sorts of stuff. I tried another new stat and when I put it in noticed the location of the port for the heater hose in the aftermarket water outlet casting allowed water to go around the stat. I thought no way that's the issue, it must be that way on purpose. I had saved the factory water outlet but couldn't find it. Put it all back together with the new stat and same problem. I dug around and found the factory water outlet and the stat fit in with no way for coolant to bypass. Cleaned it up with a vinegar soak and put the factory water outlet back on and haven't had a problem with warm up/operating temps.
