i don't know bout you other 4x4 guys, but i don't need a 120mph speedometer in my lifted b2. anybody know of a lower mph speedometer? maybe something that has a bigger sweep for the lower end. IE 0-55 mph?

either way, is there anything special i should know or think about when making a custom cluster for my sunpro gauges, and (prob autometer) speedometer?

thanks for the imput!!!

I thought the stock ones only went up to 85 mph, all the way up until '95 when they got the current dashes?

This is for the 86/87 right? I'd imagine finding a stock one would be easy. I know if it does go to 120mph there are some street/2wd people who would be interested in it.

yes its for my 86.3 B2. but the stock Tach doesn't work, nor the temp gauge, and the fuel gauge works but innacurately, and the speedo is very hard to see due to age and sun fading. not to mention that the mounting plastic behind the gauges is "supposed" to be one piece. makes things difficult. plus i'm running outta room to put gauges!!!! i need a voltmeter to keep an eye on my four KC daylighters, and i don't have a good place for it.

as of now i have two gauges where the CEL was, one on top of the other, one is a sunpro water temp and the other is a sunpro oil pressure. then the sunpro tach is mounted (very redneck) where the CD player would be. and one day i'd like to have one again!

My old BII didnt even have a tach. Thats what i learned to drive a stick in.......what an experience. The speedo went to 85 like he was saying and it was fairly accurate. maybe you could rip one out from a jy.

i took this as hes looking for an aftermarket speedo and all he can find are 120mph ones. His stock gauges are crap. Its an 85mph one but you cant see it.

Yup just read the thread title. Hes lookin for aftermarket.

thats it. want a clean setup that won't break the bank and hopefully is a bit easier to read and maybe uses more of the sweep for usuable speeds.

idealy it would be a 0-85 or so like the stock one. and 0-50 would take up most of the full sweep. tho i don't think even a custom speedo can do that and still stay mechanical.

OH, well that glass (plastic rather) part comes out actually. It's just held in by pegs and sandwiched between the decorative fascia and the actual cluster assembly (IIRC, it's been about 3 years). I took that apart and cleaned it on my '84.

My gauges used to be barely readable as well. Mostly it was just dirt and dust on the backside.

not sure how they would look or mount in your dash, but how about using tach and speedo from a motorcycle/atv/snowmobile? might find a nice pair that would give you what you're looking for. as long as they are for a 4 stroke motor, don't know why they wouldn't work. just a thought.

ohh good thought, is the cable part the same size as in the one in the b2?

Why not change the speedo gear in tranny to get the needle higher, then re-paint the numbers?
Does an autometer front bezel come off easily?

not sure i exactly follow you there, i could change the gear on the tranny side easy but if its not matching the gear's and tires, it is worthless right?

as for an autometer bezel, i'm not sure

The aftermarket speedo in my scout only goes up to 80... for the life of me I can't remember the brand and I can't be bothered to walk down to the barn to read it.

I'll look it up.

*found it
