My ranger won't go into low range, the regular 4wd lights up and works fine, but when I press the low range button nothing happens. My only idea is that the switch is bad, any ideas?

Possibly related: the drivers side front hub is pushing out oil.
I have manual hubs, if it matters.

try cleaning your shift motor (writeup in the tech library). theres also a procedure for resetting the shift control module, but i dont remember what it is.

there is no oil near your hub...perhaps your seeing liquefied grease squirting out? i'd pull the hubs off and ensure they arent over greased and give them a thorough cleaning and grease with some fresh grease.

There are a number of interlocks on this, not all of which make sense. Make sure you're satisfying all of them. I believe autos have to be in park or neutral, you must be completely stopped, AND your foot must be on the brake.

Check this before "fixing" anything.

IIRC auto's MUST be in neutral.

Turns out it just needed to be in neutral, I guess all the times I tried it the truck was in park. Thanks for the replies, saved me a lot of trouble and time.
