Low pressure 12V pump

So I have this whacky hydraulic lift pump on my lawn mower. Its a pretty simple belt-driven unit, but it is old, worn, damaged, and I can't keep shaft seals in it.

Since the installation of this unit removed a lot of parts for the manual lift system it came with originally, and its an old mower and parts like that aren't readily available, so putting the manual lift lever back in isn't really an option.

I'm thinking of putting a bi-directional electric pump on to replace the belt-driven on. There is a "toolbox" cavity under the seat pan that can easily be used, and it has a 12V 30 amp starter/generator, so power for something momentary like this shouldn't be an issue. I just need to find a pump that will fit and work. I doubt this belt-driven pump is putting out more than about 50 PSI, for what it does I'm betting 10 or 20 would get the job done.

The space I have to work with is about a foot long, maybe 6 inches wide, and 7 deep. I may be able to get a little more.

Anyone know of anything that might fit the bill?

I think newer mopars use electric power steering pumps. Everything in my world is belt or gear/shaft drive.

So do some Volvos. @PetroleumJunkie412's conversion is what got the idea in my head.

I'm worried that an electric PS pump is going to be way too much pressure and blow out the lift ram.

How about an old belt driven Eaton power steering pump? Used in everything in the 60’s, parts are everywhere, can still get new ones. I don’t think the pressure is too crazy either.

Probably. A higher pressure pump with an adjustable regulator or relief would be ideal.

It would have to be di-directional though. The control valve is built into the pump and mechanically reverses the direction of fluid flow.

So, the Volvo (Mazda and Mini Cooper as well) pump is proportional. And dirt cheap. They're good to 1700 psi, but can be run much lower. They respond to system demand and to the level of assist requested.

Depending on pressure needed, a "marine fuel pump" should do the trick as well. Usually 60 psi and a handful of gallons per minute.

A amazon diaphragm pump rated for fuel and oil may work. Usually 15-30 bucks.
