I recently gpt a 91 ranger, 2.3 5 speed and i wanna make it either overall faster or a surprising offroad beast. i know it has potential for both but i have a low budget, any suggestions?

either way you go your gonna spend money... turbo would be your best for power the tech library has a budget build thread for that... been a long time since i searched for lift stuff but it would probably be cheaper than the speed thing but i would go with 3 inch body 31s and a re gear that will do it for your muddin truck... probably want to add a winch to that tho

k i dont know much bout the gear systems do u know any where i can get the information on how to do it corectly? thanks btw

search the tech library theirs more than enough info in their... more than you will ever need... and i know that ford makes a locker for 7.5 for 210 as im looking at the same thing then all you need is the gear which is for sale at the top of your screen in the parts

if you go the turbo route, expect around $1000 if you want something reliable unless you take a LONG time gathering parts or land on a screaming deal

and if you go the 4x4 route, I suggest finding a parts truck to swap your body on or another truck. or you could go the straight axle route but you would need an axle, transmission and transfer case along with drivelines

so, yeah, cheap takes work or connections...

if you have an M5OD tranny, you can replace the trailshaft with a t-case and slide a d28 or d35 under the front end, get a front prop shaft, and be good to go.

TTB rangers front suspension is interchangable between 2 and 4 wheel drive.

no they aren't, the engine crossmembers are different between 2 and 4 wheel drive, the 2 and 4 wheel drive explorers and bronco II's can have the front axles and pivot brackets just bolt in, but not on rangers

scotts90: u said around 1000, would that be the full swap, and if i were to do the turbo swap, would i need to do anything to the tranny, or the rear end?

I got my engine for like $600 then the rest was nickel and dime stuff...

no, the tranny and axle are fine, I've been beating on mine for a while now and nothing noticable...
