I have an 86 ranger that when warm it looses power and cuts out. I replaced the high pressure fuel pump and filter because pressure was dropping off at hard accel. Now cold runs out ok but when warm it feels like it quits and also bucks and jerks some. I dont think it is fuel related anymore. Any help would be great.

don't know your other symptom's but i'd look into two things, check your tfi module, they don't like to get too hot and they cause all sorts of issues when they do.

and i had similar problems with mine, but after it warmed up and it would stumble. i could punch the gas and it would clear up. only on partial throttle did i have problems. come to find out the timing was at 10 instead of 12 and those 2 degrees definitely did the trick!

good luck, and make sure to report back to us with your findings

you can take the TFI module off the distributor you need the thin wall socket or torx to get the screws out. Have it tested at the parts store but make sure they test it multiple times so it gets hot to simulate your condition. If it tests bad get the good one to replace it motorcraft and use the heat sinc grease when you put it in or it will burn out fast. GL

Did the wide open throttle seems like nothing there. Symtoms definately worse when engine is hot, slowing down for a corner and getting on it again, or just letting off slowing down from 65 to 40 then back on throttle mild to hard speeding back up. Seems like if engine is hot enough will act up on light throttle. Could accumulator filter be causing this and can you leave it out because there is a canister filter after the high psi pump?
