I have a 92 Ranger 3.0L automatic supercab with 182K.

Recently when driving down the highway, my ranger has been cutting out. It feels like I have a loss of power and when I get up to 60 or more, it will run fine for a while and then it will cut out. I have to let the ranger drop down to anywhere from 35-55 mph before it will kick back in. It feels like the fuel is getting cut to it. Then it will run fine for a little while and then it does it again. And ideas? I was thinking O2 sensors? Any help would be appreciated.

have you checked your fuel pressure yet? does it seem to do it at a certain rpm, or is it only speed related?

I havent tested my pressure. how would I do that.

It only happens when I am driving over 55mph. Drives fine in town except for a little sputter when its cold.

check fuel prressure
a gauge is not to much at auto zone
you screw it onto the schrader valve that is next to the regulator(depending on year, may have been moved) and see what is say at idle.
it should be between 50 and 70psi
it may sound high but thats th right spec

Sort of like running out of fuel? This is what happens when a fuel filter is partially stopped up. The filter only allows a stream of fuel that is enough to allow the vehicle to go ...say 70mph! Then in a few days more of it will be clogged and the top limit will be 60mph... then in a few days.. Ok You get the picture.

got it... it was a combination of a bad throttle position sensor and a bad mass air flow sensor. replaced both....runs like a top!

replace your fuel filter.

then do a fuel pressure check.

could be the pressure regulator. which is regulated by the vacuume .
