Hi all, I'm looking for some diagnostic advice for a problem I've been having.
Recently, my dashboard instrument cluster has started cutting out while driving -- it still lights up, but I lose all speed, rpm, mileage, and temperature information, and the check engine light comes on. The fuel gauge still works. Consistently, I am able to push in the clutch and all my gauges come back to life and the check engine light turns off, but sometimes this does not work on the first try. When the gauges cut out, it does not seem to have any impact on driving, but it has been happening more frequently. There was an instance where I stopped the vehicle when it was in this malfunctioning state, and when I tried to start it again, the engine would not turn over, and the cluster was malfunctioning. Only after several attempts did the truck start again.
The problem started after I took the truck in for some maintenance, replacing the AC compressor and cleaning corrosion off the battery. I also recently installed a hardwired dash cam, tapping into the wiper blade and cigarette outlet fuses. There have been no other electrical issues, so I don't think the dash cam is the problem, but I am not certain. Could this be a case of faulty wiring, a bad fuse tap, or am I looking at a bigger issue? I appreciate any advice!
