Ok - this is driving me crazy. I'm losing coolant from somewhere on the top/front of the engine but can't figure out where it's coming from. It seems to me that it's spraying out where the ECT sensor is and the fan is blowing it back all over the driver's side fender. I can't specifically see where the leak is though! It's just drips all over the place after I've driven around awhile. Any of you guys have suggestions?

You can get a can of dye at most parts stores and place it into the radiator....then see where the dye shows up

Clean it up and let it idle wait patiently for leakage. If you could get a hold of a pressure tester that would be nice too.

Check your heater hoses. You might have a hole where you can't see it from the top.

^^probably the easiest thing you could do. Its worked for me. Another thing you can do is run the truck untill its hot then open the hood and shut the truck off. Wait a few mins and you might find your leak. When my heater core hose leaked, thats how I found it. It had a pinhole.

Just remember that a little antifreeze can look like a lot! Hopefully its something small like a hose.

just had my heater hose go right at the clamp where it connects to the engine. Seemed to have similar symptoms to what you are seeing. just cut about an inch off the end and reconnected it. free fix! awesome.

Bingo - heater hose - right at the clamp. I changed out the coolant temp sensor and probably knicked the hose. There shure isn't much room for that 1" wrench. Thanks again.

Glad to hear it was no big deal!

But word of advice...

Keep an eye on the other heater hose and other hoses in the system. I had a car that blew one heater core hose then a week later blew the other. The about 6 months down the road blew the coolant hose that jackets the throttle body. I guess since all hoses see the same traffic, its not uncommon to see them all go out at once (or close)

This thread was resolved two years ago. You will get better response if you start a new thread. This is the 2.9l engine forum. Try the 4.0 engine forum instead.

I will not contribute to your foolishness.
