Hi,
I have a 91 ranger with the 2.9 in it. It has recently started stalling, backfiring, dying, and bogging down a lot especially up hills. The only code I can get is 67 on the ford code reader which is neutral safety switch failure open circuit (PNP). I went to the junk yard and replaced it and get the same thing. I did notice I have two wires stubbed out from my main harness wires coming in from the firewall by the parking brake. There is a brown connector that looks like the small code connector that plugs into the code reader. Then there is a brown wire with a green stripe with a funky looking spade connector on the end. It stubs out all by its lonesome and has a tag on it with numbers from the ford factory. I have not noticed this one before but have noticed the code looking connector unplugged just figuring its an extra ,since most the wiring harnesses were the same for most engines in that year just different connectors were used and some werent. Do other 2.9'ers have this brown with green stripe wire disconnected? Could a faulty neutral safety switch cause my truck to stall, die, bog down, and surge through driving?
