My $2000 dollar swag was assuming you would take it in to have the transmission removed, overhauled and replaced.

You can save some money if you were to remove and replace the transmission yourself and buy a good used transmission. But honestly... it's a crap shoot on what you will get.

I usually advocate junkyard parts...but with an A4LD its probably the reason it was sent to the yard in the first place

Those "rebuild kits" sound inexpensive (compared to a 2500 dollar rebuild from a shop) but they are soft parts kits. A properly rebuilt trans needs alot of other stuff like a new pump, sprags, valve body job etc. 2500 for a full removal, rebuild and reinstall isn't "that bad" if it's done properly with a warranty.

110/hr shop rate is CHEAP around here. We just moved our shop rate up from $139 to $149 for outside customers.... Just a few years ago it was only $119. We are a dealership though so what do you expect? Free work from a stealership? That seems to be everyone's mindset with a camper that has a manufacture warranty but they didn't buy from our dealership.. They get all mad when you say they may have to pay diag fees.... "I'm not paying anything, it has a warranty." I say, "well manufactures don't pay diag costs and our techs are flat rate so they don't work for free and we don't owe you anything since you didn't buy from us" I hate being a dick like that sometimes but it's the truth...

You are the problem with society! Just last week I took my new watch (still under warranty) to the liquor store and the guy flat out refused to fix it for free! People like that disgust me! Every business needs to honor any warranty no matter what!

My mechanics labor rate is 85/hr....
