Cowl rust and dead engine would the only real big buzzkills for me.

For $8k I would be passing out torches and pitchforks and hunting down the seller though.

Bad engine on an old Mustang is no big deal. I can go from running to engine on the floor in the 65s in about 20 minutes. 25 if I want to pull the trans at the same time.

That is kind of where I am at too. But buying (and paying for a running car) and have it turn out the engine is shot would suck. $8k is kind of the low end for a running V8 coupe, I would kind of expect the body/wiring/suspension would not be perfect.

Worst case for the engine I imagine there is an Explorer out there somewhere looking to lose its engine and move on to the afterlife.

My ol lady hates classic cars, but for some odd reasons wants me to find her a 64.5-66 stang. Seems to be the quientissential chick stang behind the SN95s and anything powered by 6 cylinders.

I found her a nice 200/4sp car a few years ago for 4000, but she doesnt want a manual.

As for my tastes in mustangs, well, i like em full figured...

Athough, i do have a soft spot for the four eyed foxes to.

At the Mustang Rally in Sturgis there is a big green 71-73 fastback that shows up there for the drag race night, no hood, natural patina... rear is jacked up so the back window is about parallel with the ground with huge slicks and has a blower with hillborn scoop sticking out of the engine bay. The thing is brutal, it has to be a big block of some kind. The thing looks/sounds/runs like a brawler and I love it.

SN95 would be great for me. Disk brakes, AC, cruise pushrod 5.0, overdrive, decent suspension, strong body structure... it would be my pick.

I do like the 85-86's though too.

I am already in a committed relationship with a project vehicle though

She wants a 64.5-69 or 14+. My budget is "drag it out of a shed" though.

They are nice, they kind of exceed the “drag it out of a shed” budget though.

I have a lead on what would qualify as a barn find. Been sitting awhile looks good but pic is very bad. Guy was going to donate it to charity. He says it needs everything which can mean different things to different people but I think it is worth checking into.

I've always loved Mustangs and GTOs but I've always really loved the Barracuda! And I lived through the muscle car era!

Dude, if you ever can, please, please snap a pic of that stang. Theres one that runs around here to, its been restored but runs like a sumbitch.

The 71-73s always had that more bare knuckle look to them as opposed to the rest of the stangs that looked more boy racerish (think behind the bar drag on a saturday night vs a SCCA course)

The 69 Charger, imo, was always my favorite muscle car, but oddly enough, only to look at. Mine was fun to drive, no doubt, but a roadrunner with a 4.10 "sure-grip" and a 4sp with a 440 twisting it all is downright wicked when turned loose.

Even though they lagged performance wise, i always liked the aggressive kinda look the 73-81 Camaro/Firebirds had as well.

If we are talking modern day, give me a 6.4L Challenger with a 6sp please.
