What's the worst that could happen?
New to this forum, member at a coupe of the others. This looks like a place where I can get some good info. About to do a 4.0L V6 rebuild in my 94 Ranger Splash. I thought that while I'm at it I could do some easy things to increase the performance a little. Don't want to do a swap or anything crazy, just a couple of tweaks here and there. I'll be poking around asking dumb questions and such. Thanks in advance. R

Welcome to TRS! You're in the right place. Be sure to check the tech section.

Welcome....wait you wanted knowledge...ugg, well good luck with that from this group LOL. Honestly out of all the forums I've been on, The Ranger Station is the best for knowledge and the best tech section hands down.

A few forum members are Ford techs too...so you'll get some useful information here both from actual techs and from the guys that have just been wrenching on Rangers forever. I know they've saved me several times with their knowledge, and most times they can tell you what's wrong just by telling what its doing or not doing LOL...pretty cool forum where the techs can remotely fix your truck without ever seeing or touching it HAHA!!!

That perfect... we’re experts at dumb answers. J/K. There’s a wealth of knowledge, just ask away.

Welcome to TRS :)

Yes, its true WE have no knowledge here, BUT...........previous members did, have look here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index.shtml

Bookmark that page

Rangers used 2 different 4.0l engines, 1990-2000 4.0l OHV, 2001-2011 4.0l SOHC
So you have a 4.0l OHV in a 1994 Ranger
4.0l OHV rebuild info is in the above section, seen here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/40rebuild.shtml

Also 1994 was the last year of the EEC-IV 60-wire computer, it uses OBD1, in 1995, and up, Rangers got the newer EEC-V, 104-wire computer which uses OBD2

You'll find a lot of useful info here mixed in with the opinions and smart ass comments. Chances are someone has already done or attempted whatever you're doing.

Thanks for the welcome and kind words. Between the weather and the f-ing virus i haven't done much wrenching. Did remove the hood and placed it on some padding on the cab roof - now my barn cats have a place to sit and watch me bust things....pffftt.
Humor is good.
I've also read thru the Tech section on the 4.0L rebuild -- good stuff on identifying different castings.

Stay safe and wash your hands...
