Looking for info on factory trailer wiring plug.

1998 ranger. I had the square trailer wiring plug that comes out of the harness in the back of the truck right behind the bumper. I want to buy some trailer wiring that plugs into that square plug but the square connector is broken off. Where can i but a new pigtail to put back on my factory harness?

If you are not using the factory pigtail that plugs into that harness, you can change it to any 4-pin connector you want to use. Just buy the matching male and female parts so your pigtail can plug into what you put on the truck harness. I would recommend weatherpak. But you will have to buy the male and female plug sets with pins and wire seals, plus the proper crimp tool for the pins. Then you will have the tool for future projects. Metripack is similar and there are other styles. But those two seal very well against water and dirt intrusion. You can order the stuff easily on ebay, Amazon and many other sites.

You could go to a junkyard and grab the truck side connector for that fairly easy, it'll be on most Explorers I think (it's on my '00 and likely my '98, don't know what years it's on Rangers) But then again you could just splice to those 4 wires...
